The U.S. Army Reserve’s 99th Readiness Division hosted a Yellow Ribbon event Sept. 12-14 at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown. Rev. Dr. Paul V. McCullough III, Army Reserve Ambassador for Pennsylvania, served as keynote speaker for the event. Yellow Ribbon events span the deployment cycle - pre-deployment prep, mid-tour virtual check-ins and post-deployment reintegration - to connect families with vital resources, all backed by the program’s emphasis on family well-being. Brigade surgeon cares for all Soldiers in the field
Lt. Col. Louis DiBernardo, a U.S. Army Reserve brigade surgeon for the 11th Military Police Brigade, doesn’t like to smile for portraits even though his personality is friendly and approachable with every Soldier he meets. “We didn’t go into the military medical field for the money,” DiBernardo said about his career choice as an Army physician. “We do it to be one with all the other Soldiers. We’re still Soldiers first … In the field, you have that more intimate experience of embracing the suck together. We wear the same uniform and bleed the same color.” DiBernardo provided real-world medical care to Soldiers during annual training at a Combat Support Training Exercise (CSTX) at Fort Hunter Liggett, California, throughout the month of July 2018. In his civilian capacity, DiBernardo is a physician at an urgent care medical center near Los Angeles, California. In his military capacity, DiBernardo is responsible for overseeing the overall medical readiness of approximately 3,000 Soldiers within the brigade. (U.S. Army Reserve photo by Master Sgt.
