HOBOKEN, N.J. - Major George McMurtry, New York lawyer and Spanish American War veteran of the Rough Riders was second in command of the 77th Division Soldiers cut off by German troops and made famous as "The Lost Battalion." McMurtry was the commander of the 2nd Battalion 308th Infantry Regiment. The 77th Division was made up of Soldiers from the New York City area. ( U.S. Signal Corps Photo)
