MISSION
The 87th Training Division designs, develops, and executes Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training exercises and conducts Mission Command and Staff Training (MCST) as directed, in support of the 84th Training Command, Army Reserve HQ, and combatant commands (COCOMS) in a Total Army, Joint, Interagency, Intergovernmental, Multinational (JIIM) environment to enhance US Army readiness and lethality.
VISION
Establish the 87th Training Division as a world class OC/T and Mission Command Training Division no later than October 2021. This vision is achieved through staff communication and coordination, leveraging existing relationships, and ensuring persistent follow-up by leaders and staff. The initial phase of this operation is the 87th Training Division at IOC (Initial Operating Capability) no later than 16 October 2020 to posture itself for mission assignment and execution in FY22.
LINEAGE
- The 87th Infantry Division was organized 25 August 1917 at Camp Pike, Arkansas
- During WWI, the 87th served as part of the American Expeditionary Force in France.
- During WWII, the 87th distinguished itself as an outstanding unit and was assigned to General George S. Patton’s 3rd Army.
- After the 87th captured the strategic city of Koblenz the “Golden Acorn Division” became known as the “Liberators of Koblenz.”
- Campaigns include: the Ardennes, the break-through of the Siegfried Line, the Kyll, the Moselle, Koblenz, the Rhine, Plauen, and the Mulde.
- On 12 May 1947, the 87th Infantry Division was activated in Birmingham, AL as a Reserve Division.
- On 15 February 1957, following the Korean War, the Dept of the Army created the 87th Maneuver Area Command (MAC).
- On 1 October 1993, the 87th MAC was deactivated and the 87th Division (Exercise) was activated.
- On 17 October 1999, the 87th was redesignated as the 87th Division (Training Support) under the First Continental US Army (CONUSA).
- On 4 November 2008, the 87th was redesignated the 87th Army Reserve Support Command - East.
