Rosemont, Ill. - U.S. Army Reserve Capt. Michael Ariola, left, and Sgt. Maribel Meraz, assigned to the 85th U.S. Army Reserve Support Command headquarters, pause for a photo with Mae Gossage, 8, who wanted to meet Meraz and stated that she did not know that women can join the Army, during the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball’s Chicago Dogs baseball home game, July 28, 2019, at Impact Field in Rosemont, Illinois against the Cleburne Railroaders. Soldiers from the 85th USARSC attended there for pre-game activities to conduct a ceremonial first pitch and a presentation of colors. Col. Daniel Jaquint, G3/Operations, was honored throwing in a first pitch and the 85th USARSC color guard team presented the Nation’s colors during the playing of the National Anthem. Jaquint twice deployed across his three decades of service. Meraz, color guard non-commissioned officer-in-charge, has been mobilized for two deployments across her 11 years of service in the Army Reserve. The 85th U.S Army Reserve Support Command’s nine Brigade Support Elements, and 45 Army Reserve battalions, dispersed across 25 states, provide observer coach/trainer support to assist First Army with mobilization certification for deploying Army Reserve and National Guard units.
