Command Sergeant Major Samuel B. Mackenzie officially assumed duties as the 83rd United States Army Reserve Readiness Training Command (USARRTC) Command Sergeant Major on 15 August 2022.
Command Sergeant Major MacKenzie is a native of Brownsburg, Indiana. He enlisted in the Army in July of 1990 as a Cannon Fire Direction Specialist. He completed his Basic and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
CSM MacKenzie’s previous assignments include: Garrison Command Sergeant Major of Parks Reserve Forces Training Area, Dublin, California; Operations Sergeant Major of 7th Psychological Operations (PSYOP) Group (Airborne), U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (Airborne), Moffett Field, Mountain View, California; Senior Operations NCOIC and Program of Instruction Manager, 3rd Brigade, 100th Training Division, Ft. Totten, Queens, New York; Training NCO for 303rd Tactical PSYOP Company (Airborne), Coraopolis, Pennsylvania; Team Sergeant and Detachment Sergeant for 339th Tactical PSYOP Company, Arden Hills, Minnesota; Cannon Fire Direction Specialist, Charlie Battery, 3rd Battalion, 139th Field Artillery, Danville, Indiana.
CSM MacKenzie has deployed to Iraq in March of 2003 with Bravo Company, 13th PSYOP Battalion (EPW); Khowst, Afghanistan as a PSYOP Team Leader attached to Special Operations from 2004 to 2005 with Alpha Company, 13th PSYOP Battalion; and to Baghdad, Iraq as a Detachment Sergeant from 2007 to 2008.
His education includes Basic Training and Cannon Fire Direction Specialist at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Psychological Operations Specialist, Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course Phase I and II, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education Course; Battle Staff and the resident course of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 66). CSM MacKenzie is a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, with a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Management / Outdoor Recreation.
His awards and decorations include the Combat Action Badge, Bronze Star Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star Device, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Mobilization, Numeral 2, and Hour Glass Device, NCO Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 4, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Medal.
