Echo Mission transforms to adapt to new battlefield

Basic Combat Training (BCT) Soldiers acting as their Command Post's (CP) Quick Reaction Force (QRF) run toward a simulated casualty being carried by members of his squad to provide protection as well as assist in his evacuation July 20, during their BCT Company's final field training exercise (FTX)  at Fort Jackson, S.C. before their graduation. The 650th RSG conducts VCTS drivers training

Spc. Felicia Anne Smith, 650th Regional Support Group culinary specialist, trains on the Virtual Clearance Training Suite system simulator, at the Taylor Hall U.S. Army Reserve Center in Las Vegas July 15. With this virtual training, Soldiers were guided step by step through the different levels of detection and identification so that they could neutralize explosive hazards. These methods and systems are the future of warfare on the battlefield.

IRT brings a different perspective of the military to Chenango County

Jones personal connection to the military is what inspired her to help bring the Innovative Readiness Training event to the Greater Chenango Cares area.  Greater Chenango Cares is one of the IRT events that provide real-world training in a joint civil-military environment while delivering world-class medical care to the people of Chenango County, N.Y., from July 15-24.

DOD begins educating service leaders on new retirement system

he new retirement system is composed of three components, a tradition defined-benefit plan like that current system, a 401K type defined-contribution plan with a portable retirement account through the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), and a continuation pay at the mid-career point. Service members currently serving are grandfathered into the current military retirement system. Starting Jan. 1, 2018, all recruits will be automatically enrolled into the BRS. However, Active Duty members with fewer than 12 years of service as of December 31, 2017, and those reserve component members with less than 4,320 points will have until Dec. 31, 2018, to choose to remain in the current system or opt into the blended military retirement system

Soldiers from the Army Reserve and Army National Guard brings a unique set of skills to the Army as they work in a wide variety of civilian occupations.
