Army Reserve command teams meet to enhance readiness efforts

The orientation gave battalion command teams and Brigade Support Element staffs assigned to 85th Support Command, but operationally controlled by First Army, a better understanding of the practices and procedures that make up the hybrid relationship between First Army and the 85th SPT CMD.

Headquarters staff hits marksmanship with high qualification rate

The headquarters staff spent one battle assembly day at the range to qualify on the M16 rifle and M9 pistol achieving a 100 percent qualification rate on the M-16 and an 88 percent qualification rate on the M9.

Army Reserve Soldiers mobilize to train and equip a ready force

Army Reserve Sgt. Mindy Baptist, observer coach/trainer assigned to the 3/335th Training Support Battalion, based out of Fort Sheridan, Illinois, stretches out after morning battalion physical training exercise. Baptist is on her first mobilization in 11 years of service. The 3/335th TSBn, operationally controlled by First Army, recently began a one-year mobilization to train and equip Army Reserve and National Guard units ahead of overseas deployments to remain effective as the most capable, combat ready and lethal Federal Reserve force in the history of the nation.

First-ever Operation Cold Steel heats up Army Reserve readiness

Sean Bourque, Petroleum Supply Specialist assigned to the 786th Quartermaster Company, Provo, Utah, views the firing range through a thermal weapon sight ahead of a night live-fire gunnery qualification during the Operation Cold Steel exercise conducted at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, Mar. 20, 2017. Operation Cold Steel is the U.S. Army Reserve’s first large-scale live-fire training and crew-served weapons qualification and validation exercise. Cold Steel plays a critical role in ensuring that America’s Army Reserve units and Soldiers are trained and ready to deploy on short-notice and bring combat-ready and lethal firepower in support of the Total Army and Joint Force partners anywhere in the world. In support of the Total Army Force, First Army Master Gunners participated in Cold Steel to provide expertise in crew level gunnery qualifications, and to develop Vehicle Crew Evaluator training, preparing units here and when they return to their home stations to conduct crew served weapons training and vehicle crew gunnery at the unit-level. 475 crews with an estimated 1,600 Army Reserve Soldiers will certify in M2, M19 and M240 Bravo gunner platforms across 12-day rotations through the seven-week exercise.

82nd Airborne participates in Polish-led multinational exercise

A paratrooper assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division jumps into Torun, Poland, during Exercise Anakonda 2016, June 8. Exercise Anakonda 2016, a Polish-led, multinational exercise running from June 7-17, involves approximately 25,000 participants from more than 20 nations and is a premier training event for U.S. Army Europe.
