FORT GILLEM, Georgia –
The 3rd Medical Command Deployment Support (MCDS) hosted a weekend of events celebrating the retirement of their commanding general and welcoming the new commander, here on September 17-18, 2022.
To kick things off, a dining out ceremony took place to celebrate Maj. Gen. Joe D. Robinson, Commanding General of the 3rd MCDS after 33 years of service.
“I love these things because most people don’t get to see the pomp and circumstance of the Army, the ceremonial side of things,” said Robinson. "It’s a fun activity for Soldiers; civilians get to see us in our best dress, and I think it’s a good recruiting tool.”
During the event, Soldiers, families and friends wished him well as he transitions to retirement.
“The best moment that I have as a commander is to stand at the bottom of an airplane and welcome heroes home,” said Robinson when asked about his best moment as a commander.
On Sunday, newly promoted Maj. Gen. Joseph A. Marsiglia assumed command for the 3rd MCDS during a change of command ceremony shortly after his promotion ceremony.
“My objective is to provide trained and ready Soldiers and units as we go forward to support the total Army’s effort to win,” said Marsiglia, who bring his background in mobilization, readiness, and Army Reserve affairs to the unit as he prepares Soldiers for future operations."
