U.S. Army Lt. Col. Glenna Bergland, a public health nurse with the 352nd Civil Affairs Brigade, engages with local children during a medical event in Yendi, Ghana, June 3, 2023, during African Lion 2023. Ghana and U.S. medical personnel provided free health screenings and medical treatment to civilians from the local community at a medical civil action program during the exercise. This program served as an opportunity for the partnered medical providers to build rapport and cultural awareness with the local community. African Lion is an annual training event between the U.S., Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia. Approximately 8,000 personnel and 18 nations will participate in African Lion 2023, U.S. Africa Command's largest annual combined, joint exercise spanning multiple countries in Africa from May 13 - June 18, 2023.
