Free to fight: 173rd Airborne Brigade, Estonian Scouts Battalion conduct Operation Steadfast Javelin II training mission at abandoned Estonian prison
Army Sgt. Shawn M. Simmerman, a Brighton, Colo., native serving as a fire team leader in Company B, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment,173rd Airborne Brigade clears a room inside Murru Vanglad, an abandoned Soviet era prison, during a rehearsal for a night raid training mission held Sept. 5 in Rummu, Estonia. The raid was part of Steadfast Javelin II, a NATO exercise involving more than 2,000 troops from nine nations conducting various training missions across Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. The exercise focuses on increasing interoperability and synchronizing complex operations between allied air and ground forces through airborne and air assault missions.
