Retired Army Reserve Ambassador receives honorary recognition

By Kaleen Holliday 88th Readiness Division

Retired Army Reserve Ambassador Mary Miller received the "Order of the 88th" from Maj. Gen. Matthew Baker, commanding general of the 88th Readiness Division.

Miller, a retired Army sergeant major, continued her service to country and community by serving as an Army Reserve Ambassador in Washington state. ARAs are volunteers with significant ties to their communities who operate at state and local levels and voluntarily represent the chief of Army Reserve.

Miller, a longtime resident of Yakima, Washington, returned on May 19, 2023 to attend the Yakima Training Center, Tactical Equipment Maintenace Facility Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. After the ribbon cutting, Maj. Gen. Baker recognized Miller for her many years of dedicated service to the U.S. Army Reserve and the Yakima community as an ARA.

The 'Order of the 88th' originated when the 88th Division was in France during WWI and was re-instituted in 1985 with the intent to recognized individuals who have given beyond themselves and placed the welfare of all soldiers and families ahead of person gain.
