807th Medical Command (Deployment Support) hosts Best Warrior Competition event

By Spc. Ronald Bell 807th Medical Command (Deployment Support)

The 807th Medical Command (Deployment Support) hosted the Best Warrior Competition event at Camp Williams, Utah, along with the 76th Operational Response Command. This event is comprised of different warrior tasks and lasts over the course of about one week. The competitors participated in M4 and M9 qualification, land navigation, night land navigation, CBRN (tear gas chamber) training, basic combat life saver, military bearing appearance board, essay writing, and culminated in a mystery team event – patrol under fire.

This year’s mystery event was a mission to gather intelligence from a village elder. The teams were tasked to maneuver to the village, meet an under cover CIA agent (role player), and gather the information from the elder. While meeting with the elder the teams brought supplies to trade for as much information as possible. During this entire event they had to respond to direct and indirect fire.

Master Sgt. Robert Kilgallon, the 807th MC(DS) Senior Healthcare Non-commissioned Officer, stated that soldiers find out they can do more than they thought they could.

“Some weaknesses become their strength and some of their strengths become… stronger,” said Kilgallon.

Competition winners go on to compete at the next higher level, U.S. Army Reserve Command. Which at this level compete against other U.S. Army Reserve soldiers who do not provide medical services. After which if they win go on to compete at the Department of the Army competition.
