Army Reserve general rallies with veterans at corporate event

By Sgt. Salvatore Ottaviano 99th Readiness Division

Maj. Gen. Troy D. Kok, commanding general of the U.S. Army Reserve’s 99th Readiness Division, delivered praise to the companies supporting military veterans during the T-Mobile Veterans Day breakfast here Nov. 11.

The event was one of dozens of engagements held throughout the city as part of the U.S. Army’s Meet Your Army Week.

“The Army Reserve places top priority on building relationships with our business partners,” Kok said as he addressed veterans working for T-Mobile and their families who traveled from all over the country for the day’s festivities.

“These relationships are mutually beneficial as Soldiers have opportunities to enhance their skills and further their civilian careers,” Kok said. “At the same time, employers gain access to the best, brightest and most highly trained workforce available.”

Once in civilian life, veterans work in practically every sector of the U.S. economy using valuable skills learned from military service. The leading industries in which veterans work are government and manufacturing, as well as professional and business services according to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“When you hire service members and veterans, it is a win-win situation. Readiness is the key to future success - and the support your business provides enhances our readiness,” Kok said.

Kok was joined by Marty Pisciotti, T-Mobile chief of Human Resources, as well as Tana Avellar, T-Mobile manager of Human Resources Project Delivery who also serves as a lieutenant colonel in the Army National Guard.

“You join the military to continue the way of life that we [Americans] enjoy and your leadership appreciates you,” Pisciotti said. “Veterans can’t do it alone. You need allies and we understand the challenges that veterans have.”
