Col. Dawn M. Johnson

Chief of Staff, 451st Sustainment Command (Expeditionary)

COL Dawn M. Johnson is currently serving as the Chief of Staff of the 451st Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) in Wichita, Kansas. COL Johnson enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1984 and received her commission in 1997. Upon Graduating from Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, Georgia, she went on to earn her Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas, in 2014.

COL Johnson has spent thirty years as a public educator in Kansas serving as English teacher, principal, assistant superintendent for curriculum, and superintendent. Since July 2022, COL Johnson has been serving as the Superintendent of Schools for Hutchinson Public Schools in Hutchinson, Kansas.

COL Johnson’s previous assignments include: Brigade Commander for the 300th Sustainment Brigade, Chief of Training Management for the 377th Theater Sustainment Command; Interim Brigade Commander for the 653rd Regional Support Group; Battalion Commander for the 336th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion; Equal Opportunity Advisor for the 451st Expeditionary Sustainment Command; Commander, 89th Special Troops Battalion; Staff Officer for Support Operations in the 451st and 310th Expeditionary Sustainment Command and the 77th Sustainment Brigade, Iraq; Commandant, 89th Regional Readiness Command; Company Commander for a finance command, and Executive Officer for a military police company.

COL Johnson’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with Five Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with Six Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal, Nation Defense Service Medal with One Bronze Service Star, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Silver Hourglass and “M” Device, Army Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with 3 Device, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon with 2 Device, NATO Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, and the Army Superior Unit Award.
