BG Michael Pyle is a Distinguished Military Graduate of John Carroll University, University Place, Ohio with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degree in biology. He commissioned in the Army after graduating as a Medical Service Corps Officer and entered active duty. He is credentialed as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) has a Master Performance Consultant certificate and has multiple insurance and financial licenses. He also completed his Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
BG Pyle served as the Chief, Environmental Health at Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital, Fort Polk, Louisiana. He deployed to Operation DISTANT HAVEN with the 485th Medical Detachment (Entomology) to the Republic of Suriname as part of Joint Task Force – Suriname. He then attended the U.S. Army Medical Department’s (AMEDD) Officer Advanced Course and was an honor graduate. He was then assigned to the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Lewis, Washington, for four years and served as the Group Environmental Science and Engineering Officer (ESEO) and the Medical Operations Officer. While in the 1SFG (A), he trained Special Forces teams in preventive medicine during multiple missions, exercises, and deployments to Korea, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, and Cambodia.
In 1999, BG Pyle left active duty to start his own financial services company and developed it into a successful business. He transferred to the Army Reserve with the 330th Medical Brigade at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. He deployed to Operation JOINT FORGE, Bosnia-Herzegovina with the 28th ID, Joint Task Force - Eagle as the Medical Task Force Operations Officer (S3). Upon redeployment, he served as the Operations Officer for the Central Medical Area Readiness Group at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Subsequently, he was tasked as a Force Health Protection officer on a two-year mission for Joint Task Force – Civil Support. BG Pyle was brought on active duty again with the 330th Medical Brigade at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. After his release from Active Duty (REFRAD), he served as the Chief of Force Health Protection for the 7302nd Medical Training Support Battalion in Madison, Wisconsin. BG Pyle then returned to active duty in as the Chief of Operations for the Western Regional Medical Command - Warrior Transition Office. After this REFRAD, he took command of the 228th Combat Surgical Hospital (CSH), conducting over 35 Operational Deployment for Training (ODT) missions and 7 other missions during his tenure. For his most recent assignment, he was brought on active duty as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff (ACoS), Warrior Transition Office, Regional Health Command- Pacific, supporting warrior care and transition in a five-state, 36-country area of responsibility.
BG Pyle is a graduate of the AMEDD Officer Basic and Advanced Course; Combined Arms and Services Staff School; the Army Command and General Staff College; and the Army War College. He completed the Joint Combined Warfare School – Hybrid, Joint Operations Medical Managers, Defense Strategy Course, Medical Strategic Leader Program, Brigade Tactical Commander Development Program, RC National Security Course, Defense Support to Civilian Authorities Course, Army Strategic Education Program - Basic, and numerous others.
His awards include the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Service Medals, Humanitarian Service Medal, NATO medal, and others commensurate with his rank. He has also earned the Senior Parachutist Badge, Royal Thai Army Airborne Wings, the Republic of Korea Army Basic Parachutist Badge, and the Expert Field Medical Badge. His skill identifiers include: Strategist, Joint Planner, AMEDD Special Forces Officer, Civil Defense Officer, Parachutist, Jumpmaster and is a fully Joint Qualified Officer (JQO) superseding Joint Duty Assignment Qualified officer. BG Pyle is also a proud member of the Order of Military Medical Merit.
