Brigadier General Joseph A. Ricciardi is the Acting Commanding General of the 81st Readiness Division located on Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina. The 81st Readiness Division has responsibility for base operations for Army Reserve units throughout the Southeastern

United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and is responsible for ensuring units and soldiers are prepared to deploy and fight multi domain operations and meet current and future Combatant. Commander Force requirements.

General Ricciardi commissioned in 1990 following his graduation from the United States Military Academy. He received a master's degree from Purdue University and his Doctorate from Benedictine University. He is a graduate of numerous military courses including: Engineer Basic and Advanced, Command and General Staff College, and the United States War College. He began his career with the 54th Engineer Company in Germany and subsequently commanded at the company, battalion, and brigade levels. Since 2002, he has spent over 35 months deployed to Southwest Asia participating in Operation Enduring Freedom (2002-2003), Operation Iraqi Freedom (2004), and Operation Enduring Freedom (2010-2011).
