Photos: Deployment ceremony honors 289th Trans Det

Members of Phoenix’s Central High School JROTC serve as the color guard during a deployment ceremony at the Buckeye Armed Forces Reserve Center Sept. 18. The 289th Transportation Detachment is serving in a scheduled year-long deployment, in which its mission is to head transportation missions throughout Kuwait and north into Iraq.

Lt. Col. Byron Mobley, commander, 336th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, encourages Army Reservists serving with the 289th Transportation Detachment during the unit’s deployment ceremony held at the Buckeye Armed Forces Reserve Center Sept. 18. The soldiers will be conducting a large-scale transportation mission moving personnel and equipment throughout Kuwait and north into Iraq.​

Sgt. Ryan Bird, a native of Phoenix and Army Reservist who serves with the 289th Transportation Detachment, kisses his son, Benjamin, before being honored in a deployment ceremony held at the Buckeye Armed Forces Reserve Center Sept. 18. The unit is serving in a scheduled year-long deployment, in which its mission is to head transportation missions throughout Kuwait and north into Iraq.

Sgt. Teresa Hoyos, who hails from Phoenix and is an Army Reservist and member of the 289th Transportation Detachment, embraces her daughter, Cari, after the unit’s deployment ceremony held at the Buckeye Armed Forces Reserve Center Sept. 18. Families and friends gathered to honor the soldiers at the ceremony, which officially sent the soldiers off to conduct a scheduled 12-month deployment to Kuwait.​
