2014 U.S. Army Reserve NCO and Soldier of the Year
The U.S. Army Reserve will host its next Best Warrior competition at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., from June
23-27, 2014. Enlisted Soldiers in the ranks of E-1 to E-7, who have won at their local command levels, will represent
their command and face-off to see who will be named the U.S. Army Reserve’s Best Warriors.
The competitors will spend the week on a variety of challenges. In the course of four days, the Soldiers will: take the Army Physical Fitness Test consisting of push-ups, sit-ups and a two mile-run; perform in an Army appearance board; complete a timed road march; complete a written examination and essay on general military topics; fire M-4 rifles; negotiate day and night urban warfighting orienteering courses; and prove their mettle in other tests of skill such as hand-to-hand combat, first aid and various mystery events.
This is the eighth year the Army Reserve will hold the competition to determine who the top non-commissioned officer and junior enlisted Soldier is among the approximately 200,000 Citizen-Soldiers serving at home and around the world. Winners from this competition will represent the U.S. Army Reserve at the Department of the Army Best Warrior Competition, later this year.
An awards ceremony will also be conducted to announce the winners of the competition. Each competitor will attend, and others are welcomed, but attendance is limited to 250 personnel.  Anyone wishing to attend must register in advance via the U.S. Army Reserve Command 2014 Best Warrior Competition registration page on AKO at:
