Major General Bill Gerety assumed command of the 80th Training Command 29 August 2011. He previously served as the commanding general of the 81st RSC from September 2009 to August 2011. He was also previously the Chief Integration Officer, Office of the Chief Information officer/G6, at the Pentagon, in Washington, DC.
Gerety was the assistant division commander for the 100th Division (Institutional Training), in Louisville, Ky., from May 2005 through April 2007.  Prior to his assignment with the 100th Division, he served as chief of staff, 98th Division (Institutional Training), in Rochester, N.Y. from April through July of 2004. Previously, Gerety served from May 2002 to March 2004 as the commander for 3rd Brigade (Combat Support), 98th Division (Institutional Training). He has held a number of key leadership and staff positions including; SOCENT Civil Affairs team operations officer, battalion operations officer, battalion executive officer, battalion commander and brigade executive officer. Gerety also served with the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he served as detachment commander and adjutant/S5. Gerety also served twice as detachment commander, 11th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Earlier in his career, Gerety served with the 24th Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Stewart, Georgia, as platoon leader and company executive officer. 


Gerety was commissioned in 1980 from the United States Military Academy, at West Point, N.Y. His military education includes the Army War College, Army Command and General Staff College, the Infantry Officer Advanced and Basic Course, the Special Forces Officer Qualification Course and the Civil Affairs Officer Advanced Course. He received his bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy and both a master of science degree and master of business administration degree from Florida Institute of Technology.
Civilian Life
In his civilian capacity, MG Gerety is the President and Chief Executive Officer, of Dataline LLC, McLean, Virginia and the President of Amber Waves Marketing, Inc, Pasadena, MD.
Gerety's military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf cluster; the Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters; the Army Commendation Medal; the Army Achievement Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters; the Expert Infantryman Badge; the Parachutist Badge; the Special Forces Tab, the Ranger Tab; the Army Staff Identification Badge and the British Parachutist Badge.
