Brigadier General Douglas R. Satterfield is currently the Deputy Commander, 412th Theater Engineer Command and concurrently as the Assistant Chief of Staff, Engineer for the Eighth U.S. Army in the Republic of Korea.
Brigadier General Douglas R. Satterfield entered the United States Army on active duty at Fort Polk, Louisiana in 1974 as a Private. As an enlisted Soldier he was a Military Policeman, Infantryman and Drill Sergeant, eventually achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was commissioned in 1981 through ROTC as an Infantry Officer. During Desert Storm in 1991 he branch transferred to the Corps of Engineers.
Brigadier General Satterfield’s command positions include: Brigade Commander 3rd Brigade, (Civil Affairs), Bronx, NY; Battalion Commander 8th/98th Engineer Regiment, Fort Dix, NJ; Commandant 1079th Garrison Support Unit, Fort Indiantown Gap, PA; Company Commander, Company A, 365th Engineer Battalion (Combat) (Heavy), New Cumberland Army Depot, PA; HHC Commander, 1/314th Infantry (Mechanized), Lock Haven, PA; and Company Commander, Company B, 1/314th Infantry (Mechanized), Huntingdon, PA.
Brigadier General Satterfield completed three combat tours in Iraq. His last position was Chief of Staff for J-7 Engineers, United States Forces – Iraq, Baghdad Iraq from July 2010 to June 2011. He also served as an engineer with the 1st Cavalry Division Engineers and Multi-National Corps – Iraq C-7 on earlier tours of duty.
Brigadier General Satterfield holds a Bachelors Degree from Texas Tech University and a Master’s of Science Degree from Oklahoma State University. BG Satterfield is a graduate of the Air Assault School, Infantry School (Basic and Advanced Courses), Engineer School, U.S. Army Command and General Staff Officer College, the U.S. Army War College and several other key military schools. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with one Silver Leaf and two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Component Medal, National Defense Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, various other medals, the Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge and the Drill Sergeant Badge.
