Colonel Kenneth J. Vaughn, Sr. enlisted in the Georgia Army National Guard in 1981. During his sophomore year at Georgia College, he joined the ROTC program and commissioned as an Infantry Officer. From 1981 until 1984, COL Vaughn served in various leadership and staff positions. Upon entering Active Duty in 1984, he served as Scout Platoon Leader, Support Platoon Leader with 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, NY deploying to Central America and Canada. In 1989, COL Vaughn branch transferred to the Signal Corp and assigned as Operations Officer USAIC, Fort Drum, NY and Operations Officer, 275th Signal Company, 41st Signal Battalion and Commander, 362nd Signal Company Yongsan, Korea. In 1992, COL Vaughn served as Brigade Signal Officer and Division Telecommunications Officer, 101st Airborne, Fort Campbell, KY.
In 1994, COL Vaughn departed Active Duty and in joined the Missouri Army National Guard in 1998 as Assistant Division Signal Officer, 135th Signal Battalion, 35th Infantry Division, and Fort Leavenworth, KS. In 2000, he transferred to the Army Reserves, serving as Brigade Signal Officer, 460th Chemical Brigade. In 2001, he joined 2nd Battalion, 381st Regiment (CS/CSS) (TS), 75th Division (TS), serving as Observer Controller / Trainer Team Chief, Battalion S3, and Battalion XO. During this time his team trained and evaluated 38 separate client units. In 2003, he was mobilized in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Noble Eagle mobilizing over six-thousand soldiers and two-hundred client units.
In 2004, he was selected as commander of the 3rd Battalion, 377th Regiment 95th Division (IT). While serving as commander he also performed the duties of Brigade S3. In 2006, he was selected as commander of Detachment 13 to deploy to Afghanistan where his unit was assigned to the 41st BCT Oregon and tasked to reinforce the basic training base at Kabul Military Training Center, (KMTC). Detachment 13 assisted the Afghan National Army in the first ever Drill Sergeant School, NCO producing academy and mentored the Soldier Training Brigade cadre, Drill Sergeants and Officers as they trained over 15,000 Afghan patriots to secure their country. Upon return, he served as the Deputy Commander 1st Brigade 95th Division (IT). Upon selection to Colonel in 2008, he was assigned as Team Chief C, 3rd BCTG, 75th Division. In 2009 COL Vaughn took command of the 1st Brigade 95th Division. With over 1200 Soldiers supporting mobilizations at three active duty locations, 1st Brigade trained many new recruits while being seamlessly intergraded alongside active duty counterparts. In 2011 COL Vaughn deployed with to Afghanistan supporting the 101st Airborne as the Senior Liaison to the French Airborne Brigade. Upon return COL Vaughn was selected as the G5 with the 84th Training Command and is currently serving as the Chief of Staff.
COL Vaughn is a graduate of Georgia College where he received his Baccalaureate in Business Information Systems and his Masters Degree in Computer Information Systems from Southwest Missouri University. He is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Airborne School, Ranger School, Battalion / Brigade Signal Officer Course, Advance Signal Officer School, Directorate of Information Management Course, Air Assault School, Combined Services Staff School and Command and General Staff College.
Military decorations include the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters; Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Achievement Medal; Armed Forces Component Achievement Medal with Oak leaf Cluster; Armed Forces Reserve Medal Bronze Hour Glass and “M” Devise; National Defense Service Medal; Overseas Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Ranger Tab; Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
Colonel Vaughn is married to the former Launa Leverett of Macon Georgia. They have two children, Elizabeth (27) and Jesse (26). His family lives in Frisco TX and Colonel Vaughn works as an IT Program Manager with AT&T.
