was appointed as the Assistant Chief, Army Reserve in April 2014. She serves as the primary advisor to the Chief, Army Reserve within Headquarters, Department of the Army. She ensures Army Reserve equities are included in the formulation of policy & strategy at the National, Departmental & Service levels. She provides oversight to the Chief, Army Reserve’s staff & directs development of policy, strategic resourcing and plans for generating & sustaining Army Reserve force capabilities.
Ms. Sisson is the daughter of an Army infantryman who served with the 7th Army, 45th Infantry Division, 180th Infantry Regiment who was captured during the invasion of Sicily in 1943 & held for 2 years as a Prisoner of War in Stahlag 2B in Hammerstein Germany during WWII. She is also the sister & daughter-in-law of Viet Nam & Korean War veterans. Ms. Sisson has over 30 years of career federal service, including assignments as the U.S. Central Command J8 Director of Resources & Analysis; the Installation Services Director for the Assistant Chief of Staff of the Army for Installations Management; and, most recently as the Director of Logistics, Installations & Mission Support for the USAF Air Education & Training Command. She has also performed considerable engineering consulting work in the private sector. Since her appointment to the Senior Executive Service in December of 1998, Ms. Sisson has held six SES positions across the U.S. Federal government in the Departments of Energy, Transportation & Defense, including the U.S. Army & Air Force.
Ms. Sisson retired in 2008 from the U.S. Navy Reserve with a total of 28 years combined Active & Reserve commissioned service. She began her military career in 1980 after graduating first in her ROTC class at the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Mechanical Engineering & was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps. Her active duty assignments included tours with the Norfolk Navy Public Works Center; the Atlantic Construction Battalions; and the Civil Engineer Corps Officer School in Port Hueneme, CA. As a Reservist, Ms. Sisson served in numerous leadership positions, including the Chief of Staff & Engineer for U.S. Central Command's J4 Logistics Directorate. She also served as Commander, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 23; Commander, Contingency Engineering Unit, Atlantic; Commodore, 3rd Naval Construction Regiment; & Commander, Theater Contingency Engineering Management unit at U.S. Southern Command.
Ms. Sisson holds a Master Degree in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University’s Industrial College of the Armed Forces and has completed the DoD Senior Acquisition Course at Defense Acquisition University. She is a graduate of the Program for Senior Managers in Government from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard & the University Executive Program in Logistics & Technology as well as the AF Enterprise Leadership Seminar at the Kenan-Flagler Business School of the University of North Carolina.
Ms. Sisson’s awards include the Presidential Rank Award Meritorious Executive Finalist for FY13, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joint Distinguished Civilian Service Award, the DoD Distinguished Civilian Service Award, the Air Force Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the Army Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the Defense Superior Service Medal, & the Legion of Merit Award. She is married to Kurt D. Sisson formerly of Columbus, OH, who is also a retired reserve officer. They have 4 children - a daughter & 3 sons - 1 of which resides with them in Fairfax Station, VA.
