Brigadier General Kate Kasun was assigned as the Deputy Commanding General of the 75th Training Division (Mission Command), Houston Texas in November 2011. Born in San Jose, CA and raised in the mountains of North Carolina, BG Kate Kasun attended Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC, graduating with a BS in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement and commissioned a second lieutenant in the Military Intelligence Corps. In 2003, she received a Masters in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College in Carlisle, PA.

Following the basic Military Intelligence and Counterintelligence officer courses, BG Kasun was stationed in Ansbach, Germany with the 1st Armored Division with a follow on assignment to VII Corps in Stuttgart, GE. In 1982, she returned to the States and joined the Army Reserves. She was stationed at numerous posts throughout the United States, to include Fort Benning, GA, Presidio of San Francisco, CA, Fort Devens, MA, Fort Totten, NY, and three times at Fort Bragg, NC. During her 30+ years of service, she has commanded at several levels and served in numerous staff positions, to include: Counterintelligence Officer, Adjutant, Division Secretary to the General Staff, Intelligence Analyst, and division training officer to name a few.
BG Kasun was on active duty almost continuously from 9/11 through May 2010. As battalion commander of the 325th Military Intelligence Battalion, East Windsor, CT, her command was the first Army Reserve battalion mobilized in direct support of Operation Noble Eagle, where they supported the 525 Military Intelligence Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, NC for a year. Her follow-on mobilization tour was with the 77th Regional Readiness Command, Fort Totten, NY as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Training, G7. In Jan 2005, she served a three year active duty tour with the United States Joint Forces Command (JFCOM), Norfolk, VA, where she first served as the Joint Capabilities Integration Development System (JCIDS) Chief, then the Deputy Director for Integration with the J8, followed by a year as the Senior Joint Doctrine Development Officer with the J7, Joint Warfighting Center.
BG Kasun served five months each in Baghdad, Iraq, in 2005 and Kabul, Afghanistan in 2006 as a team chief and Military Intelligence collections analyst for JFCOM’s Joint Center for Operational Analysis for lessons learned. In 2007, she was selected to be a General Officer and became the Deputy Commander for the US Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM), Ft Belvoir, VA. In September 2008, BG Kasun was again the first female and first Reservist to be selected by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to serve as the 28th Commandant of the Joint Forces Staff College, Norfolk, VA, one of the four colleges of the National Defense University. She followed that tour with an assignment as Deputy Commanding General, US Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (Airborne), Ft Bragg, NC. Her awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (Three Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Commendation Medal (Two Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (Two Oak Leaf Clusters), and the Army Achievement Medal.
BG Kasun has three children, Kristen, Erik and Karin.
