CSM Steven Hatchell entered active duty October 1972, and attended basic training at Fort Knox, KY. During his Regular Army enlistment he served as an Infantry Soldier with the 1/503rd Airborne Infantry, 101st ABN DIV (AIRASSLT), 1/75th Infantry Regiment (Ranger),and the 24th INF DIV.
CSM Hatchell enlisted in the Army Reserve August 1982 and served in a variety of assignments and military occupational specialties. His Troop program assignments include Communications Equipment Repairmen, Company NBC NCO, Petroleum Operations Sergeant, Operations NCO and Platoon Sergeant. He entered the AGR program in July, 1990 as the Operations NCO for the 192d Quartermaster Company, Milan, OH which immediately deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm and Provide Comfort. Upon redeployment he served as Operations NCO, 325th QM Battalion, Kansas City, MO; Army Reserve Liaison, 84th Chemical Battalion (Regular Army) for the implementation of the Total Army School System program (TASS), Fort McClellan, AL; S3 OPS NCO, 490th Chemical Battalion, Anniston, AL; 1SG, 414th Chemical Company, Orangeburg, SC; S3 Operations SGM, 460th Chemical Brigade, N. Little Rock, AR; Senior NCO for a multi-compo/multi-service postal company in support of Operation Iraq Freedom where he was responsible for the health and welfare of 77 Postal Soldiers dispersed throughout 14 locations from northwest to southern Iraq; Command Sergeant Major for the 208th Regional Support Group, San Antonio, TX, continuing as CSM after unit relocation to Fort Jackson, SC. Command Sergeant Major of the 926th Engineer Brigade, Montgomery, AL., and also served as the interim CSM for the 412th Theater Engineer Command consisting of over 13,000 Soldiers. He's currently assigned as Command Sergeant Major for the 11th Aviation Command effective 8 April 2013
CSM Hatchell attended all required professional courses including the resident Sergeants Major Academy where he graduated with superior ratings in all areas and received the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) commendation for outstanding performance of the Army physical fitness test. He attended over 25 functional courses during his career; most notable are CSM Force Management Course; Command Sergeants Major Course; 1SG's Course; Airborne School; Battle Staff NCO Course; TRADOC's Instructor Training Course; Small Group Facilitator and Middle Manager's Course. CSM Hatchell has a Bachelor of Science from Excelsior University, of New York State graduating Summa Cum Laude.
His more prominent decorations and awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak leaf Clusters, and Army Commendation Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters. Badges awarded are the Combat Action Badge, and Basic Parachutist Wings.CSM Hatchell is married to the former Miss Mary K. Hennessy of Louisville, KY and has one daughter, Alexandria S. Hatchell.
