Command Sgt. Maj. Michael D. Stultz 

On March 16, 2010, Command Sergeant Major Michael D. Schultz was sworn in as the 11th Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army Reserve after serving as the Command Sergeant Major of the 143d Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Orlando, Fla.  As the Command Sergeant Major of the Army Reserve, he serves as the personal adviser to the Chief, Army Reserve on all enlisted Soldier matters, particularly in areas of training, leader development, and Family readiness.

As the force’s top noncommissioned officer, he represents the interests of more than 150,000 enlisted Soldiers and serves as the Army Reserve representative at all levels within the Army, Department of Defense, congressional level and in the media. He spends much of his time traveling to observe training and to provide counsel and guidance to NCOs, enlisted Soldiers and their Families. He sits on councils and boards that make decisions that affect enlisted Soldiers and their Families and is routinely invited to testify before Congress.

A veteran of deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait, he previously served as Command Sergeant Major of the Joint Sustainment Command-Afghanistan, Kandahar, Afghanistan; the 143rd Transportation Command (Forward), Camp Arifjan, Kuwait; and the 332nd Transportation Battalion (Terminal), Tampa, Fla. His previous assignments include the 641st Regional Support Group, St. Petersburg, Fla.; 2/108th (Institutional Training) Military Police Battalion, Fort Jackson, S.C.; 3-348th Regiment, Camp Blanding, Fla.; 3-347th Regiment, Orlando, Fla.; 320th Military Police Company, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Provost Marshal’s Office, Ft. Meade, Md.; and 194th Military Police Company, Neu Ulm, Germany.

CSM Schultz’s military education includes: National Defense University Keystone Course, Battalion/Brigade Pre-Command Course, Command Sergeants Major Course (Resident), Sergeants Major Course (Resident), First Sergeant Course, Battle Staff NCO Course, Basic Airborne Course, NBC NCO Defense Course, and other leadership, instructor and MP courses.

During his military career, he earned the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Star Medals, the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Combat Action Badge, the Parachutist Badge, The Department of the Army Staff Badge and other medals, ribbons and awards. CSM Schultz is also a member of the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, and the Order of Saint Christopher for Transporters.

CSM Schultz earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of South Florida and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Troy University. He is completing a doctorate in Education, (Organizational Leadership) from Argosy University, Tampa, Fla.

He retired from the Tampa Police Department in April 2010.  His 15-year career with the force included assignments with the Tactical Response Team (SWAT), the Street Anti-Crimes Unit (Plain Clothes Narcotics/Prostitution Enforcement), the Community Policing Unit and the Tampa Police Mounted Patrol (Reserve).

The Chicago native and his wife, Denise, have two daughters and a son who is a graduate of Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Penn.
