 FORT EUSTIS, Va. – Every 98th Training Division Soldier knows there's a tenuous moment during serious, strenuous training when the body battles the mind. The words, which begin only as a whisper, can rise to a thunderous crescendo and the subsequent noise fills our heads with fear and we suffocate with doubt. "Just quit!"  CARY, N.C. - On March 20, 2011, with Soldiers and smiling family members looking on, Lt. Col. B. Scott Maddrea assumed command of the 1-323 Basic Combat Training (BCT) Battalion, headquartered in Cary, N.C.  Military couples, whose duty station is as far away as Florida, attended the final Strong Bonds event of 2010 in the tiny village of Lake Placid, N.Y., nestled deep in the Adirondack Mountains. According to the Strong Bonds webpage, Strong Bonds is a unit-based, chaplain led program that helps Soldiers and their Families build strong relationships. The program’s mission is to build Soldier readiness by providing skills the Soldier can use to strengthen his or her marriage and other relationships.  Spc. Allison L. Hubbart, a chaplain’s assistant assigned to Headquarters, 1st Brigade, 98th Training Division (IET), Columbus, Ga., was awarded the 2010 Atlanta Journal-Constitution Army Reserve Component Achievement Award in a ceremony held Nov. 18, 2010 at the U.S. Army Reserve Command Headquarters.  2 nd Battalion 321 st Infantry Regiment Change of Command was held at Charlie Co. in West Palm Beach, Fla. on October 23, 2010. The outgoing battalion commander Lt. Col. Thomas Gantt was accompanied by his wife Amy and incoming commander Lt. Col. Larry Iwanski was accompanied by family members and friends.  It was a beautiful day in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Salem, Va. on Saturday, September 18th- sunny, crisp and clear, a perfect day for a 5K run and a little camaraderie. Ten members of the Headquarters 3 rd Brigade, 98 th Training Division (IET) entered the 15 th Annual Marine Corps Mud Run at Green Hill Park in Roanoke County, Va.  A total of 50 drill sergeants and Soldiers of the 1 st Brigade 4th/ 323 rd Regiment deployed to Eglin Air Force Base to participate in “Operation Doolittle”, a battalion two week exercise as part of the battalion’s yearly ARFORGEN cycle training initiative. Company command teams from the southern region of the United States represented by Alpha Company, Montgomery Ala., Bravo Company, Huntsville Ala., Delta Company, Starkville Miss., and Echo Company Mobile, Ala. exercised deployment checklists while conducting risk mitigation, pre-combat inspections and pre-combat checks.  In May, nearly 400 future Soldiers assembled at Doughboy Field at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB-MDL), N.J. for a “Mega Function.” The event was hosted by the Mid Atlantic Recruiting Battalion commanded by Lt. Col. Harry Woodmansee. The massive assembly of civilians was turned over to the Drill Sergeants of the 3-385th, 4th Bde., 98th Training Division (IET), who endeavored to train these men and women in an effort to prepare them for the rigors of basic training.  This has been a very busy year for the Soldiers and Families of the 98th Division. Our Drill Sergeants, Instructors, and the Soldiers that support them have conducted a wide variety of missions both overseas and here in the United States. Our Drill Sergeants have been providing world class training to our Army’s newest Soldiers at Ft. Benning, Ga., Ft. Knox, Ky., Ft. Jackson, S.C., and Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.  In 2002, the Army adopted the Modern Army Combatives program. The program was developed with two basic principles in mind: 1. The winner of the hand to hand fight in combat is the one whose buddy shows up first with a gun. 2. The defining characteristic of a warrior is the willingness to close with the enemy.  Brig. Gen. Robert Stall, former commanding general, of the 98th Training Division (IET), Col. Todd Arnold, 98th Training Division (IET) deputy commander, Command Sgt. Milt Newsome, 98th Training Division (IET) command sergeant major, Lt. Col. (Chaplain) Robert Searle, 98th Training Division (IET) division chaplain listen as Col. Paul Wegman, 98th Training Division (IET), chief of staff addresses Soldiers and guests during the Division Memorial Ceremony held in Rochester, N.Y.  Soldiers of the 98 th Training Division (IET) returned to school from March 8 th through 14 th at Iroquois University. Their campus was the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Atlanta, Ga. and their professors were Soldiers and civilians from the 98 th Training Division and Army Reserve Command Headquarters.  Sgt. 1st Class Lou Stevens, Command Career Counselor for the 98th Training Division (IET) wanted something he could use to help fill and maintain the strength of the 21 Drill Sergeant battalions, broken down into 105 companies or 1890 Drill Sergeant positions available within the 98th Tng. Div. (IET).  The U.S. Army Reserve’s top officer his wife today joined Rochester civic and business leaders who reaffirmed their support for military members and their Families at the grand opening of Rochester’s Army Strong Community Center.

For nearly 80 years, the 98th Training Division has given America a well-trained compliment of citizen-Soldiers ready to meet any mission. The many accomplishments these Soldiers achieved in a historical context is rife with change.
98th Training Division Soldiers have surmounted every obstacle from mobilization and wartime service, including occupational duty during World War II, and through the various reorganizations, restructuring and mission changes during the decades that followed.

This Department of Defense program is a news service with more than 14,000 newspapers and magazine subscribers nationwide. While editors deteremine whether or not to publish news releases, these newspapers have subscribed to the free service. They WANT to publish news releases about your accomplishments--and all you have to do is fill out the online DD Form 2266 to participate.
It's a very simple online process that takes only a couple of minutes. Click on this link to access the online form.There you will see the online DD Form 2266, just fill in the blanks. Be sure to complete all blocks on the form. At the bottom of the form, you can click to upload your photo. It's a good idea to submit a good photograph of yourself in uniform.
That's all you have to do. A news release is generated by the program center and sent to any newspapers in your hometown who subscribe to the service.
