Historic Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky., continued its tradition of supporting the military by declaring Oct. 23, 2011 as “Military Appreciation Day.”  This annual event has in the past welcomed basic trainees and drill sergeants from Fort Knox.  This year’s event turned its attention to a Kentucky native, Marine Sgt. Dakota L. Meyer.  Meyer is the third living service member to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest award for valor, for his actions in Afghanistan.

I joined the Army Reserve in 1997 shortly after I fulfilled my initial six-year active duty commitment. I originally planned to make a “clean break” from the Army and just go back to school, but a buddy of mine who’d transitioned to the Reserves a year or so earlier kept urging me to join him.

The 95th Training Division will spearhead the second iteration of Army Reserve Soldiers to train the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) as part of the NATO Training Mission - Afghanistan (NTMA).

The 95th Infantry Division Association members met in New Orleans August 3-8, 2011, for their 62nd reunion. The Association, originally a WWII organization, has expanded its ranks by actively recruiting 95th soldiers from all eras and chose New Orleans as a locale that has something for veterans of all ages.

Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), 95th Training Division held a live auction following a Welcome Home Warrior-Citizen Ceremony on November 7 to benefit the unit’s Family Readiness Group (FRG).

On September 21, Staff Sgt. Daniel Windle, a mobilized Army Reserve Soldier and member of 5th Battalion, 46th Infantry, aided in the rescue of an injured woman at the Bridges to the Past Historical Walking Trail at Fort Knox, Ky.
