FORT JACKSON, S.C. – Fallen Soldiers will never be forgotten.
It’s one of the core pillars for all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, and the Army’s active-duty, National Guard and Reserve components make it a point that families of fallen Soldiers are never forgotten.
Ensuring families’ questions are answered, survivors are given a soft shoulder to lean on or just lending a simple helping hand is the sole mission of the Army’s Survivor Outreach Services program.

Non-commissioned officers assigned to the Army Reserve's 81st Regional Support Command here are spending their after-work hours learning new tricks of the trade.
FORT JACKSON, S.C. -- From a short history lesson to tasty foods, dozens of 81st Regional Support Command Soldiers, civilian employees and contractors spent more than 90 minutes celebrating a lifetime of Hispanic heritage.
As part of the month-long national celebration, the Army Reserve command, based here, took time out of their base operation missions to remember the past accomplishments of the Hispanic community.
Teaching Army Reserve Soldiers how to get ahead of their problems and lead a healthy lifestyle on and off duty--this has been the theme for the 81st Regional Support Command since March when it began the unit’s Comprehensive Soldier Fitness program.
BREVARD, N.C. – Tucked away at the entrance of the Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina, the small community of about 6,000 residents welcomed the nation’s second Army Strong Community Center during a grand opening ceremony May 15.
Several hundred Soldiers, veterans, family members, business owners and community leaders helped launch the second community-based center filled with resources not only to take care of Army Reserve families  but all military families seeking assistance.
<b>COLUMBIA, S.C. </b>–On May 15, visitors to the William Dorn Veteran Affairs Medical Center were greeted with an extra helping of musical cheer by an unannounced performance from the “Wildcats” of the 208th Army Reserve Band.
Kicking off the Armed Forces Day weekend, which celebrated current and past heroes, more than 30 members of the Concord, N.C.-based band spent over an hour playing a mixture up patriotic tunes and toe-tapping popular songs.
COLUMBIA, S.C. - For more than ten hours each week, two Army Reserve Soldiers take time away from their families and friends to mentor eight inspiring youth basketball players on and off the hardwood floor.

Master Sgt. Kenny Greene and Staff Sgt. Reinaldo Rivera, both assigned to the 81st Regional Support Command, based at nearby Fort Jackson, S.C., spend their late evenings and weekends coaching the Rebels of Columbia's Northeast Youth Basketball League.
FORT JACKSON, S.C. - In her small hometown of Pendleton, S.C., six-year old Betty Agnew embarked on a new adventure that would eventually span many years and bring a better appreciation to one of humanities greatest gift - giving back to those most in need.

At that age, Agnew's aunt invited the aspiring singer to her first choir practice to sing at local churches and other organizations around her neighborhood; she never looked back.
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Some say one retired Army master sergeant who spent numerous years playing on the All-Army Basketball Team was probably born wearing a pair of basketball shoes.

Now, Timothy Jordan, a Department of the Army civilian assigned to the 81st Regional Support Command based at nearby Fort Jackson, S.C., spends his spare time volunteering and mentoring Columbia-area youth as the president of the 11-12 age group of the Northeast Youth Basketball League.
NEWBERRY, S.C. - For nearly 90 minutes, the jingle of holiday music filled the historic Newberry Opera House during a concert held Dec. 12.

From the sounds of a Mariah Carey holiday melody to more traditional seasonal music, Kathy Lyden guided an enthusiastic audience through a magical journey as the 208th Army Reserve Band from Concord, N.C., brought holiday cheer through their musical arrangements.
FORT JACKSON, S.C. --A new pilot program using the latest electronic technologies was implemented during the first nation-wide Army Reserve lieutenant colonel command selection board held at the 81st Regional Support Command Dec. 6-9.

A bronze plaque commemorating Hopi Indian code talkers was dedicated during the Nov. 11 celebration at the Hopi Veterans Memorial Center here.
ORLANDO, Fla. – Nails, hair and boys.
It seemed like typical girl talk for nearly a dozen teenagers attending a weekend workshop with their parents during an Army Reserve Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program held Aug. 7- 9 here.
But like most events sponsored by the 81st Regional Support Command, nothing ever seems typical, and this weekend was no exception.
FORT JACKSON, S.C. – After nearly 45 minutes of exhausting struggles, small triumphs and a little sweat, Blue team’s Maj. Kenneth Crowe connected a quick transitional one-yard pass to Sgt. “Game over,” shouted Chief Warrant Officer Darrell Peak as he tried to catch his breath after the weekly battle between Active Guard and Reserve Soldiers assigned to the U.S. Army Reserve’s 81st Regional Support Command.
DURHAM, N.C. – Grasshoppers and Bulls.
It’s not your ordinary mixture of species – even for a local zoo, but it was part of the 208th Army Reserve Band’s week-long adventure through North and South Carolina.
The band wasn’t performing for small bugs and other farm animals nor participating in a new reality television show, but rather playing for thousands of Carolinian fans of minor-league baseball.
DURHAM, N.C. – “Daddy, daddy! Look, real live G.I. Joes,” a young boy excitedly said, jumping up and down while tugging on his father’s sports shirt.
“Just like the ones we see on television,” the father said as they watched nearly two dozen Army Reserve Soldiers walk onto the Durham Bulls Athletic Park field during a recent baseball game here.
“Do you think they have been to war and saw bad guys,” the boy asked his father as he pressed his nose through the black netting separating the playing field and several thousand fans attending the Tuesday-night game.
CHAMPIONS GATE, Fla. – Water slides, kickball, lazy-river inner tube excursions and the near perfect weather were just a few select menu items available for youth of all ages attending a recent Army Reserve weekend getaway.
From toddlers taking midday naps in the comforting arms of a volunteer, to a quick round of bingo between new-found friends, the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program staff learns to make the next event better.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Florida is known for its alligators, and keeping an eye on more than 50,000 of them is part of the daily responsibilities of one of the U.S. Army Reserve’s newest ambassadors. U.S. Army Reserve Ambassador Dave Kratzer isn’t wrestling 15-foot carnivorous reptiles in the Florida swamps, but rather helping oversee student issues at the University of Florida at Gainesville.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The 81st Regional Support Command executed another successful Yellow Ribbon Reintegration mission held March 27-29 here after three months of methodical planning, coordinating with dozens of outside organizations and ensuring Soldiers had orders and plane tickets in hand.
Just as quickly as Soldiers who participated in the workshop completed their final evaluations after the three-day weekend event, the small Family Programs team, led by William Allen, huddled in the operations center to discuss how to make the next event, scheduled only three weeks away, better.
