Major General Stuart Dyer Takes Command

335th Signal Command Welcomes A New Commander

By Maj. Greg Majewski

Fort McPherson, GA- Soldiers from the 335th Signal Command (Theater) welcomed a new Commanding General, during a change of command ceremony on Fort McPherson’s Hedekin Field on a warm summer day last Saturday. This ceremony marked the end of Maj. Gen. Dennis E. Lutz’s illustrious Army career and four year tenure as Commander, while representing a robust opportunity for Maj. Gen. Stuart M. Dyer.  “It is an honor and a privilege to assume command of the 335th Signal Command today, especially during this critical time in our nation’s history,” said Dyer.  Dyer is no stranger to the 335th having served in the command as a young Captain in the 1980s, and most recently as its Deputy Commanding General.

“I look forward to renewing old bonds and working with each one of you as we strive together to provide commanders and warfighters with the right information at the right place at the right time,” said Dyer. The command’s war time mission provides both technical and tactical oversight for communication projects and signal assets in the Southwest Asia Theater of Operations.

Lutz spoke proudly of his time as commander of the 335th, stating that the organization will always hold a special place in his heart.  “Helen and I will always be proud alumni of this great organization,” said Lutz.  “My thoughts will always drift back to the 335th with fondness.  Lutz praised his former deputy, charging Dyer is ready to take command.

“I have known Maj. Gen Dyer for many years and I admire him,” said Lutz.  “I know the command will continue to move forward under his leadership.”

Dyer used this opportunity to challenge his troops.  “First, stay mission focused and second, ensure Soldier care,” said Dyer.  “If we ensure mission success and take care of Soldier’s, everything else becomes secondary."  The 335th Signal Command (Theater) is based in East Point, GA, and mostly comprised of Signal and Chemical units numbering more than 8-thousand Soldiers in nearly two dozen states across the country.
