As part of Grecian Firebolt, signal Soldiers setup seven communication sites across the United States that umbrella six separate training exercises (in California, Wisconsin and Georgia): Global Medic; Pacific Warrior; Diamond Saber, Patriot Warrior; Red Dragon and the Combat Support Training Center.  These exercises, in total, include nearly 4000 Soldiers from all three Army components: Reserve, active duty and National Guard, and cover a wide array of specialties like chemical warfare, combat medicine, and deployed finance.

Seven Soldiers from across the United States traveled to East Point, Ga. to claim those Best Warrior titles for the 335th Signal Command (Theater) in East Point, Ga, June 1-5.  Having won the contests at their company, battalion and brigade levels first, the competition was tougher, said the NCO-level Best Warrior winner, Staff Sgt. Lucas Crumbaker, a satellite communications operator/maintainer with B Co., 392nd Expeditionary Signal Battalion in Tobyhanna, Pa.  “There was more competition.  That drove all of us to exceed and go to the max.”

On June 17, the scene at Froedtert Hospital in the Milwaukee, Wis. area appeared to be out of a sci-fi movie.  A radiological explosive exposing hundreds of people had gone off.  The hospital grounds were chaotic and casualties everywhere screaming for help. Response teams; fire fighters, ambulances, and medical staff, frantically assisted and screened the victims for radiation contamination; among them, was the U.S. Army Reserve.
The 335th Signal Command (Theater) from East Point, Ga. was recognized for winning first runner up in the deployment excellence, large unit category for the Army Reserves on June 2 at the 5th annual Combined Logistics Excellence Awards held in Alexandria, Va.  They and 95 other units were awarded for their outstanding logistical contribution in Maintenance Excellence (AAME), Deployment Excellence (DEA), and Supply Excellence (SEA).

Inside the Holiday Inn in North Little Rock, Ark., reconnaissance team member reconnaissance examines unknown agents. Holiday Inn allowed the 392nd to conduct a full day of validation training at their facility. “Just being able to get into different environments and different structures allows us to test how well we can get in and out of these buildings is probably the best thing about it,” said Sgt. Mariya Wakem, chemical operations specialist and acting liaison officer for the reconnaissance mission.

The 335th Signal Command (Theater) is one of the Army’s four vital theater signal commands. The command has a unique structure, representing all components of the Army, National Guard excluded.

The 335th SC (T) operates the Army’s portion of the Global Information Grid in the CENTCOM AOR. The command ensures delivery of seamless, enterprise-level command, control, communications, computers and information management services as required by Army Network Operations (NETOPS). Additionally, the 335th SC (T) provides assured delivery of common user services in support of Combatant Commanders and the Army Service Component Command.  Through creative and innovative planning and coordination, operations personnel upgraded the 335th SC (T) Emergency Operations Center into a state-of-the-art Network Operations Center (NOC). The operations personnel coordinated with the forward base and the 160th Signal Brigade to access and view the AOR network architecture, and successfully employed network monitoring software to enable the Active Component, the Army Reserve, and Active Guard Reserve. The 335th headquarters, itself, is comprised of about 12% Active Duty, 14% Active Guard Reserves, and 72% Reserve Soldiers and officers.

With the headquarters in East Point, Ga. the command is responsible for managing the telecommunications infrastructure for Southwest Asia, an area covering 25 countries, in support of the U.S. Third Army/ Army Central Command (ARCENT) and U.S. Central Command’s (CENTCOM) peacetime and ongoing contingency operations.  As an Operational and Functional Command, the Headquarters 335th provides command and control to nearly Army all of the Reserve Signal assets, 80% of Army Reserve chemical assets, and other units in preparation for missions both home and abroad.
