The U.S. Army Reserve "Best Warrior" Competition will once again be held this year at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, June 19-24, 2011.
Members of the media will be able to witness first-hand how these Warrior-Citizens, representing the best of the 206,000 Army Reserve Soldiers and NCOs, will test their skills and knowledge against not only themselves and each other but against Army standards that evolved from today's contemporary operating environments in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Warriors for Soldier of the Year will include the ranks of Private through Specialist. The Warriors for NCO of the Year will include the ranks Corporal through Sergeant First Class.
These Warriors will face rigorous tests that challenge their Soldier skills, qualities and abilities in every aspect of their military career. The Warriors will take the Army Physical Fitness Test consisting of push ups, sit ups and a two mile run; a written examination on general military topics; a graded essay on an assigned topic; appearing before a Command Sergeants Major board to evaluate each Warrior's appearance, military bearing and knowledge in a number of key areas; fire M-4 rifles for qualification; negotiate day and night urban orienteering and land navigation courses; and be evaluated in a number of critical Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills; complete a series of Mystery Events and finally compete in an Army Combatives tournament.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Friday, June 24 at the American Legion in Sparta, Wis.
Once selected, the top Soldier and NCO will represent the U.S. Army Reserve Command at the Department of the Army "Best Warrior" competition which will be held at Fort Lee, Va. in the fall of 2011.
Army Reserve succeeds at all-Army "Best Warrior" competition.
In 2008, Sgt. David Obray, an Army Reserve Soldier, won the all-Army "Best Warrior" competition at Fort Lee. It was only the second year the Army Reserve competed at the all-Army level.
