Some Heroes Wear Quilts: Army Reserve Soldier recognized by Quilts of Valor during International Quilting Festival
During opening day of the International Quilt Festival Nov. 3, 2022, in Houston, Col. Tina L. Kirkpatrick (right), commander, 475th Quartermaster Group, U.S. Army Reserve, and Staff Sgt. John L. Carkeet IV (left), public affairs noncommissioned officer-in-charge, 75th Innovation Command, wrap themselves in handmade quilts made by members of Quilts of Valor, a national organization with more than 10,000 members whos mission is to cover veterans and service members touched by war with handmade quilts. The Foundation achieved a major milestone when it produced its 300,000th quilt in April 2022. Kirkpatrick, who also serves as the suicide prevention program manager for the 75th Innovation Command, plans to collaborate with Quilts of Valor to integrate quilting as a form of art therapy to enhance Soldier resiliency.
