By Maj. Khoran Lee 416th Theater Engineer Command

Capt. Tyler Siskowic is one of 28 selected company-grade officers from across the Army, National Guard and Army Reserve to win the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award for Calendar Year 2020.

The award recognizes company-grade officers and warrant officers who demonstrate the ideals for which General MacArthur stood: Duty, Honor and Country and promotes and sustains effective officer leadership in the Army.

Siskowic, with eight years of active Army service, currently serves as the 321st Engineer Battalion S3 Engineer Plans Officer, out of Boise, Idaho.

He believes that the diverse experiences of his Army Engineer career were important in his consideration for the award.

“I’ve held three company command positions. One of which included a route clearance unit in deployment just last year. I’ve spent time in vertical construction, combat engineering, and battalion units” said Siskowic.

In 2019, Siskowic was hand-selected to take command and deploy the 348th Route Clearance Company to Afghanistan just 45-days before the unit mobilization. Under his command, his unit completed over 300 Route Clearance missions.

He is a skilled leader who believes in academic excellence. “On a personal level, I’ve always valued education and supported Soldiers in pursuing their academic goals. I've always strived to academically challenge myself.” He received a Master of Systems Engineering Degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

With his diverse experience and pursuit of challenging opportunities, he has enabled the successful development of high-performing leaders. He consistently exemplifies the character and ideals for which General MacArthur stood.

An award ceremony for the winners of the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award will be sponsored by the Chief of Staff of the Army and associated events will take place in Washington, D.C.
