Major General Luis R. Visot

Chief of Staff, United States Army Reserve

Major General Luis R. Visot assumed the responsibilities of Chief of Staff, United States Army Reserve, on 21 April 2014. As Chief of Staff, MG Visot is responsible for the synchronization and integration of the Army Reserve staff and leading its strategic and operational planning, activities and execution.

MG Visot, born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, was commissioned as a 2LT in May 1978. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI and a Masters in Education from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. MG Visot received a Masters in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College. His military education includes: Infantry Airborne Basic Course, Quartermaster Officer Basic Course, Transportation Officer Advanced Course, Command and General Staff College, the Associate Logistics Executive Development Course, the United States Army War College, the Advanced Joint Military Professional Education (AJPME), the Joint Flag Officer Warfighting Course, and CAPSTONE.

MG Visot has held a variety of command and staff positions throughout his career. MG Visot’s general officer command positions include: Deputy Commanding General (Operations), United States Army Reserve Command/Deputy Commanding General Reserve Affairs, United States Army Forces Command, Fort Bragg, NC; Commanding General, 377th Sustainment Command (Theater), Belle Chase, LA; Commanding General, 4th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), San Antonio, TX; Deputy Commanding General, 1st Sustainment Command (Theater), Ft. Bragg, NC; and Commander, 3rd Transportation Command Element, Anniston, AL. Other command positions include: Commander, 32nd Transportation Group (Composite), Tampa, FL; Commander, 6th Transportation Battalion (Truck), Ft. Eustis, VA; Commander, 3-347th Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 87th Division (Training Support), Orlando, FL; and Commander, 146th Transportation Detachment (Air Terminal Movement Control Team), Orlando, FL. MG Visot’s deployments include: Desert Shield/Desert Storm (Saudi Arabia), Operation Joint Endeavor (Hungary and Bosnia-Herzegovina); Operation Iraqi Freedom (Kuwait and Iraq), and Operation Unified Response (Haiti).

MG Visot’s awards/decorations: Army Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with silver and bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Superior Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, Parachutist Badge, and Army Staff Identification Badge.
MG Visot is married to Dr. Cindy S. Visot, who is the Chief of Staff and the Director of Board of Trustees Operations at the University of South Florida.
