Command Sergeant Major Anthony L. Simpson

Command Sergeant Major

Command Sergeant Simpson is a native of Washington, D.C. and currently resides in Clinton, Maryland. He enlisted in the United States Army on the delayed entry program immediately following graduation from high school. His first assignment on active duty was an MP at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. His follow-on active duty assignments included Korea and Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. He left active duty after four and a half years and joined the Army Reserve. He was called back to active duty when he was mobilized with the 80th Division in 2005 and called upon to establish and run the Iraqi Military Police School.

While in the Army Reserve he has served in a variety of assignments. He served as a Military Police officer with the 400th MP Company, an Instructor with the 80th Division prior to being selected for and attending Drill Sergeant School. He served as a Drill Sergeant for four years before being selected to come back to the school as a Drill Sergeant Leader. While assigned to the 80th Division Drill Sergeant School, he progressed through the ranks as Senior Drill Sergeant Leader and eventually Chief Instructor. He was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant in 2004 and served in the 1/318th, 2/318th, 3/318th, and 4/318th before attending the Sergeants Major Academy and being promoted to Command Sergeant Major in 2009. His first assignment as a Command Sergeant Major was 5/159th GSAB at Ft. Eustis. His previous assignments as CSM were 437th Civil Affairs BN, Ft. Story, 2nd BDE (TS), 94th Division (FS) and 333rd MP BDE, 200th MP Command.

Command Sergeant Major Simpson has completed NCOES courses at all levels culminating with his completion of the Sergeants Major Academy. He has also completed the Air Assault School, U.S. Army Drill Sergeant School and the Drill Sergeant Leader Course. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/ “M” and 10-year device, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Air Assault Badge, Overseas Service Ribbon and Drill Sergeant Badge.

He holds an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice and also a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix. He also holds a Master's of Science in Strategic Intelligence from the National Intelligence University. In his civilian capacity he works for the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C. as Federal Police officer holding the rank of Major serving as an Area Commander for the Maryland Region.
