Major General Steven W. Ainsworth

Commanding General, 84th Training Command

Major General Steven W. Ainsworth serves as Commanding General of the 84th Training Command at Ft. Knox, KY. Previously, he served as the Commander of the 377th Theater Sustainment Command (TSC) in New Orleans, LA. He received his commission as a Distinguished Military Graduate through the Reserve Officer Training Corps from the University of Southern Mississippi in May 1983, after serving five years as an enlisted Soldier.

His early assignments include: Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, Communications-Electronics Officer, and Company Commander in the 155th Armor Brigade, in Mississippi. He also served as Brigade Logistics Officer for the 155th Armor Brigade. He was the Operations and Training Officer; Chief, Plans and Training Branch; and then the Commander, Detachment 2, State Area Command, Camp McCain, Elliott, Mississippi. He was an Instructor at Command and General Staff Officer Course for the 100th Division (Institutional Training), Nashville, Tennessee. He served overseas as the Chief of Operations – Deployment/Redeployment, 377th Theater Support Command, 3d Army Coalition Forces Land Component Command, United States Army, Southwest Asia. He was a Branch Chief for the 75th Division (Institutional Training) in Birmingham, Alabama followed by Commander of 648th Regional Support Group, Military Intelligence Readiness Command, St. Louis, Missouri. He served as Chief of Staff/Interim Commander of the 87th Army Reserve Support Command in Birmingham, Alabama. He was the Commander of the 94th Division (Force Sustainment) and Deputy Commanding General at the Sustainment Center of Excellence – Combined Arms Support Command, Fort Lee, Virginia. He then served as the commander of the 7th Mission Support Command in Germany and was dual-hatted as the Deputy Commanding General of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command. He is currently a member of the Army Reserve Forces Policy Committee (ARFPC).

Major General Ainsworth’s awards include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, the Army Reserve Overseas Training Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.

Major General Ainsworth’s military schools include the Nuclear Biological Chemical School (Honor Graduate), the Quartermaster Basic and Advanced Courses, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the Command and General Staff Officer’s Course, the Faculty Development Course, the Observer Trainer Academy, and the U.S. Army War College. He is a graduate of the Advanced Joint Professional Military Education Course at the Joint Forces Staff College, the LOGTEC Executive Course at the University of North Carolina, CAPSTONE at the National Defense University, and the Army Strategic Education Program (ASEP) Advanced and the Senior Commanders Course at the Army War College.

He holds a Bachelor of Science (with Honors) and Master of Business Administration (with Honors) from the University of Southern Mississippi. He also holds a Graduate Degree in Banking from Louisiana State University and a Master in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.

Major General Ainsworth is a commercial banker and resides in Nashville, Tennessee, with his wife. He has served on the boards of numerous Middle Tennessee service and community organizations.
