Soldiers from Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta Companies of the 2nd Battalion, 413th Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 95th Training Division (IET) took a five and one half hour flight across the Pacific to the 50th state in order to participate in a field training exercise at Bellows Air Station, with their sister unit, Echo Company which is located in Honolulu. The 108th Training Command (IET) has recently set off into a new area and era of partnership building within the African Command (AFRICOM)/ US Army Africa (USARAF) Area of Responsibility (AOR). Seventy Servicemembers representing three different branches of the armed forces and over 50 different units descended on the Griffith Field House at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. for a little fun. Sometimes, the answer to a question will depend on who you ask the question of. In this case, the question is, “do you consider Julian With a hero?” If you ask Julian With, the answer is no. In fact, Julian will tell you that he was “simply doing his job". Sgt. Amber Jones, a drill sergeant with the 3rd Battalion, 518th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 98th Training Division, and a native of Clifton Park, N.Y., uses her passion for leading Soldiers and love for the Army to take a different approach to train her new Soldiers during basic training. The Army Reserve is making Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst an important new outpost for the NATO Training Mission – Afghanistan (NTM-A). 108th Training Command dedicated Drill Sergeant School for the Army Reserve and Active Component on Feb. 23.
(L to R) Lt. Gen. Jack Stultz, Chief of the Army Reserve, Maj. Torya Mathes-Evans, commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Co., 108th Training Command (IET) and Yellow Ribbon event coordinator with Maj. Gen. Robert Stall, commanding general, 108th Training Command (IET) were guest speakers at a Yellow Ribbon program, hosted by the 108th Training Command (IET) more than 450 Soldiers and Family members came to Charlotte, N.C., on Feb. 5 for the event. Photo by Sgt. 1st Class Marty A. Collins, 108th Training Command (IET) Public Affairs. .jpg) A new chapter in Army Reserve history began December 4 when 1st Battalion, 389th Regiment, 1st Brigade, 98th Training Division (Initial Entry Training), 108th Training Command uncased its unit colors in Old San Juan making it the first ever Army Reserve drill sergeant battalion on the island. The 108th Training Command (IET) sent five Soldiers to Vermont, Sweden, and Norway for the Confederation of Inter-allied Reserve Officers’ annual Military Competition (CIOR MILCOMP) from July 18th to August 15th, 2010. After serving four years as an Army Airborne Ranger in the 75th Regiment and six as a Special Forces Guardsman, Maj. Otto Padron had reservations that the Army Reserve—better known for specialties like medical and engineering—would provide the regular adrenalin rushes he had become used to. Nevertheless, he wanted to find a way to balance a successful civilian career as a senior broadcast television executive with a predictable deployment schedule and the opportunity to continue serving. We have taken “scenarios from real life,” lessons learned and after action reports to create training for the Navy personnel coming through Task Force Marshall said Master Sgt. Joseph Cruz, training non-commissioned officer in charge, as he explains the process of preparing some of the Sailors for deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan, here at Ft. Jackson, S.C. Deep in the training areas of Fort Jackson, S.C., a group of Soldiers sat in a circle. All eyes were on him. “It’s your turn,” he said to a private. “Do the 9-Line Medivac Request.” Line by line, the private read the lines for a proper radio medical evacuation request. Like a proud father, he told her she did well. A reminder of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedoms was etched into the memories of those who attended the 108th Training Command (IET) Fallen Warrior Memorial Dedication, June 13, during the Roll Call of Remembrance. With each name called came the sounded reminders as the bell rung in lieu of “here, sir.”
